Recently Launched Special Needs Trust Network Offers Financial Options for the Colorado Disability Community

Denver, Colo. – The Special Needs Trust Network (SNTN) is a new pooled trust option for people with disabilities and their loved ones, offering financial oversight and guidance, long-range planning strategies, compassionate and individualized care management, and specialized trust management services.

SNTN ‘s Executive Director and Founder is Rita Blackwood who has more than fifteen years experience in managing pool trust operations . She is a multi-state regional director for the National Pooled Trust Alliance and is a named contributor to the industry leading publication “Pooled Trust Options: A Guidebook. “ She is a registered nurse with an MBA from Colorado State University and a parent of an adult child with a disability.

Client and beneficiary financial assets are managed by the highly regarded First Western Trust Bank (FWTB), a leader in private banking and wealth management. FWTB also acts as co-trustee for the pool trust.

Protecting eligibility for means-tested public benefits and managing continuity of care for a loved one with disabilities can be difficult, expensive, and complex. Sometimes even the smallest windfall, settlement award, or family contribution can eliminate eligibility for government benefits that are often the only available income.

By utilizing a pooled special needs trust people with developmental, physical, cognitive, or age-related disabilities may retain the benefit of financial assets while protecting eligibility for need-based benefits like SSI and Medicaid, or state programs like Colorado’s Aid for the Needy and Disabled. Pooled special needs trusts are approved by the IRS, and sub-accounts are approved by Medicaid and other relevant agencies.
