Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation’s Take Steps Walk welcomes walkers on Saturday, June 11th at the Denver Zoo
Denver, CO – March 3, 2011 – The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation welcomes walkers to participate in the Take Steps Walk on Saturday, June 11 from 6-9 pm at the Denver Zoo. Like hundreds of thousands of other Americans around the country participating in over 100 Take Steps Walks, walkers will raise much-needed awareness of and funds for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, chronic and painful digestive diseases impacting over 1.4 million American adults and children including Walk Chairperson, Kristen Williams.
Kristen became involved with CCFA due to her own personal complications with the disease and has dedicated her time to give back to CCFA in order to help cure Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases. She has participated in the Takes Step Walk in Denver from its inception in 2008 and consistently supports the event through her own fundraising efforts.
The Kickoff Celebration for the Takes Steps Denver Walk will take place on Wednesday, March 9 from 6-9 pm at Dave and Buster’s located at 2000 S Colorado Blvd, Denver, CO 80222. At this fun, family-friendly event, team captains, sponsors and walkers will enjoy appetizers, music, prizes and games, while learning fundraising strategies, tips and ideas! It is free to anyone who wants information or plans on participating in the Takes Steps Denver Walk.
Take Steps walkers are given all the necessary fundraising tools to raise critical research dollars for these diseases, including a free customizable Web page for fundraising support, fundraising advice and assistance, and banners for social networking sites like Facebook. About Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis
Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are painful, medically incurable illnesses that attack the digestive system. Crohn's disease may attack anywhere from the mouth to the anus, while ulcerative colitis inflames only the large intestine (colon). Symptoms may include abdominal pain, persistent diarrhea, rectal bleeding, fever and weight loss. Many patients require hospitalization and surgery. These illnesses can cause severe complications, including colon cancer in patients with long-term disease. Some 1.4 million American adults and children suffer from Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, with as many as 150,000 under the age of 18. Most people develop the diseases between the ages of 15 and 35.
